PONY is delighted to present a series of new work by emerging British artist Jack Davis as part of our pop-up exhibition in Bath, UK. Davis’ multi-disciplinary practice includes sculpture, painting, photography and temporal works which explore our experience with and understanding of landscape. The artist finds in the natural world subjects that channel energy to evoke a sense of physical experience; dramatic, dynamic and deep.

This exhibition is the artist’s first solo show with all works focused on the narrative of place and a common materiality of various metals. In and Between approaches the natural environment in terms of identifiable places; sites that can be mapped, inhabited and released. Through using a rich materiality, Davis transforms a variety of textures, marks and layers which build an experiential sense of transformation within the landscape. Davis attempts to portray the traditional subject of landscapes in a new way; by creating forms derived from reconstructed satellite constellations (geo-spatial positions), with highly stylised, brightly hued wavelengths.

Davis initiates a physical dialogue between himself and the compound, exploring its limitations and strengths. Like a tug of war between artwork and artist, the act of engagement with sheet metal creates works evoking unique responses directly influenced by a specific time and place, offering an exclusive outcome creating a three-dimensional location map.

The artist has gone on to exhibit in numerous galleries both nationally and internationally, including the Scope Art Fair Miami; PROTECHT with the Whitechapel Gallery, London; The Threadneedle Prize: ‘Figurative Art Today’, Mall Galleries, London; ‘Painting Now!’ One Church Street Gallery, London, UK; Englishman Fine Art, Florida, USA; RWA, Bristol, UK. Davis was also included in the Aesthetica Art Prize: FUTURE NOW 100 contemporary artists of 2017.
