// SUSTAINABILITY + ENVIRONMENT

art + culture has a responsibility to promote positive change, shift social processes and activate a more sustainable future

We are committed to creating a more sustainable future for the natural world, people, and places. As an arts organisation, we have a unique opportunity to use our platform and cultural influence to set a positive example, promote agents of change, share creative thinking and encourage others to act. Our vision is underscored by the civic role of culture and its function in shifting social processes to develop a more harmonious and sustainable future. We are proud Active Members of the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) and further support their goals and the mission of the broader cultural sector.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and embedding deep ecological principles into our commissions, strategies, programming, and production processes by:

  • Only partnering with aligned collaborators who prioritise and demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability and education.

  • Programming to reflect environmental concerns and to instil action by creating innovative models of working and theories of change.

  • Working without exclusion of non-human beneficiaries and future generations.

  • Sharing key climate insights and sustainability practices with our partners, artists, suppliers and audiences.

  • Continuing our professional development and embedding ecological thinking across our working practices.

  • Using online video meetings and when commuting is unavoidable, travelling by foot or train in over 90% of instances.

OUR COMMITMENTS GOING FORWARD

PONY is committed to creating a meaningful framework for sustainability and will:

  • Clearly communicate our environmental commitment with artists, suppliers, contractors, and clients to encourage them to support these systems and work with us to reduce our impact.

  • Encourage our creative collaborators to actively contribute to a sustainable arts sector and to join GCC.

  • Aim to reuse, recycle or repurpose all project materials, and deploy the five R’s of waste hierarchy.

  • Increase sustainability practices and raise awareness of the climate crisis, continuing to underpin projects and programming to reflect our environmental commitment.

  • Share successes and collaborate with suitably committed artists, arts organisations, and industry partners, and avoid suppliers who rely on greenwashing.

  • Priortise working with contractors who demonstrate a commitment to transition to a net zero carbon-built environment.

  • Communicate with providers about their carbon footprint and look for opportunities to share learned insights, encourage action, or switch to alternate suppliers who reflect shared sustainability practices.

  • Further refine our commissioning principles to deliver more sustainable artworks and production processes.

  • Prioritise couriers and transport that use zero carbon delivery methods and when printing is required always use 100% recycled paper and carbon neutral production methods.

Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is an international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sector’s environmental impacts. GCC’s primary goal is to facilitate a reduction of the sector’s CO2e emissions by a minimum of 50% by 2030. As an Active GCC member, we are committed to creating a meaningful framework for sustainability that can be actioned and refined on a regular basis.
