We are pleased to present emerging British artist Jack Davis who will be featured in this anthology of emerging and established sculptors and 3D artists. The State of Art: Sculpture & 3D’s latest hardback edition provides a comprehensive investigation of contemporary practice; 63 artworks from 28 sculptors, identifying prevailing and future trends. The beautifully produced annual volume has become a collectable item with an emphasis on documentation of contemporary visual culture.
“Today's sculptors have access to an enormous array of materials, forms, concepts and techniques, all of which can be presented under the term 'sculpture', which suggests the discipline is no longer a recognisable art form with fixed boundaries and rules, but instead, how it has expanded its own terms of reference, with unspecified mediums utilised to create work. The recent exponential increase in digital technology and the development of global communication permeates thinking about ourselves, society and the shifts in space or environments that we occupy. Artists are completely diverse in their ideas and practice, operating in different ways; the commonality is an awareness of new perspectives and structures, as vessels for social and political change.”
PONY is proud to have written the artist essay and worked with the publisher to highlight Davis’ physicality when making 3D work and the resulting symbiosis between sculptor and material. The publication includes an extensive overview of how the artist has evolved one of the oldest manifestations of creative expression, with a focus on some of the more cutting-edge approaches to the ideas presented within his 3D practice.
